Kolkata goes berserk as the city celebrates the new IPL champions with full fervour

A sweet little chaos; a delirious Kolkata crowd; dancing and jiving Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla; and chief minister Mamata Banerjee felicitating the new IPL champions Knight Riders with sweat cakes and gold chains — such were the scenes in the City of Joy on Tuesday.
KKR’s victory procession began from South Kolkata’s Hazra at 11.07 am and stopped at more than three more places before they reached the Writers’ Building.
As Gautam Gambhir’s unit entered the Writers’ Buildings (at about 12.25 pm), the chief minister and her cabinet greeted the Knights, with the skipper giving Banerjee the IPL trophy.
Shah Rukh and Juhi joined the brigade ten minutes later. Welcomed with shawls and sweets, they left for Eden Gardens where a greater felicitation awaited them.
For once, the Eden crowd ignored the sweltering heat and joined Shah Rukh and Juhi in the revelry. As the huge gathering went bananas, Banerjee and West Bengal state governor MK Narayanan soaked in the mood of the moment.
Later, Shah Rukh planted a kiss of respect on Banerjee’s forehead. An emotional Shah Rukh said, “I felt gratified at winning the heart of Kolkata.”
