Arrest to expose Pak’s role in 26/11: cops

As Jundal was in the Karachi control room, he will know ISI, Pak army officials involved in the conspiracy

MUMBAI: The arrest of 26/11 accused Abu Jundal, 36, is a major breakthrough, the city police said on Monday.
“We will get his custody soon,” said Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police, crime.
Police officials believe that this arrest will help expose Pakistan’s role in the 26/11 terror strikes as Jundal was in the control room at Karachi and likely knows the ISI and army officials who were part of the conspiracy.
During the attack, Indian agencies monitoring the conversations between the 26/11 attackers and their handlers in Pakistan began suspecting that an Indian was in the control room giving instructions to the terrorists because of the use of Hindi. “Suspicion first came up because he was using Hindi words such as prashasan,” said a senior official, on condition of anonymity.

Later, during interrogation, Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone surviving attacker, told the police that he and the other nine attackers had received training from Jundal and Lashkar-eTaiba’s Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi.
Jundal’s name features prominently in conversations with the attackers in Chabad House, the Jewish centre in Colaba.
The 36-year-old is also said to have taught Kasab to speak Hindi.
According to the charge sheet filed against Kasab, Jundal and three others, including Lakhvi, had gone to the Karachi port to see off the 26/11 attackers when they were heading to Mumbai.
Once they get Jundal’s custody, the Mumbai crime branch will match his voice with those intercepted by the agencies during the attacks, officials said.
