Biker crashes into Uddhav’s wife’s car at Kalanagar signal

Biker crashes into Uddhav’s wife’s car at Kalanagar signal

A biker hit the car of Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray’s wife Rashmi in Bandra (east) on Sunday night. The biker and his friend, who was riding pillion, sustained minor injuries. Rashmi was not injured.
Police said the incident had been caught on CCTV cameras and they were looking at the footage to find out if the accident was the biker’s fault or that of Rashmi’s driver.
At around 8 pm on Sunday, Rashmi Thackeray was on her way to south Mumbai in her sedan. The car stopped at the Kalanagar junction signal in Bandra (east) when 24-year-old Sher Ali Khan, riding a motorcycle, crashed into Thackeray’s car from the side. Khan was heading towards Sion and his friend, Mohammed Shajia Khan, 25, was riding pillion.
Both Khan and Rashmi’s driver must have assumed their signal had turned green and accelerated, leading to the collision, police said.
“There is a problem with the signal at the junction. If you stand at a certain angle in the Sion-bound lane, you think that your signal has turned green. We will scan the CCTV footage of the area to ascertain if either of the drivers was at fault,” said A Chavan, senior inspector, Kherwadi police station.
The police said that the bikers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the nearby Fauzia hospital. They were discharged after preliminary treatment.
“We have not registered a case and have only recorded the incident. Further investigation is underway,” said Chavan.
