Is Aadhar not a valid ID proof?

Is Aadhar not a valid ID proof?
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has stipulated that all banks should meet the know-your-client (KYC) norms. Following this, my bank, State Bank of Travancore, got in touch with me to inform me about the new rules. I immediately visited the branch to submit my KYC information form with a photograph and the Aadhar card as proof of address. To my surprise, the bank refused to accept my KYC form, stating that according to the RBI directive, the Aadhar card is not a valid proof of address.

The government is spending crores to introduce Aadhar as a UID (Unique Indentification) across the country. Since the launch of the project, the government has been claiming that Aadhar is a valid ID proof and a valid proof of address. To get this card issued, several documents have to be submitted as proof and all of these are up for further verification. This entire process to get the card made was very lengthy. A lot of people had to stand in queues for hours. The cards were finally delivered to the respective persons six months after all formalities were completed.

So, when the government has ruled that the card is a valid ID proof across the country, how can the RBI come up with rules opposing the government’s decision? This is very unfair because such refusals clearly implies that Aadhar is of no value.

The government needs to clarify the value of Aadhar. If cannot be used as an ID and address proof, then why did the government waste so much money on this project?
