In a last-ditch attempt to save himself, Jeritt G John, who is accused of throwing a chemical on Aryanka Hosbetkar, 26, told the police that Hosbetkar had poured the chemical on herself. John was arrested from a Nalasopara hotel on Friday following a tip-off. While Hosbetkar’s friends, who had witnessed the incident on Wednesday morning, claimed that John had dragged her to the third floor flat in the Worli building, screamed at her, then flung the chemical on her face and fled before locking them all inside, he claimed that he had gone there to seek an apology from her in front of everyone. “She called me to her flat and started screaming at me. I asked her to kill me if she did not love me or just say sorry. But she picked up a bottle and poured some chemical on herself. I got scared and ran away,” the 46-year-old owner of a production house told the police. “I was in a relationship with Hosbetkar since December 2011. She knew that I was married and have a son. Even my wife knew about our relationship,” he claimed. “When Hosbetkar asked me to get a divorce, I filed for one on October 31, 2012. But the same day, she sent me an email saying: ‘It is over and I no longer want to continue with the relationship’. I was shocked. I asked her to meet me on several occasions but she did not respond to my calls or messages.” When asked why he was in hiding, John said: “My lawyer clearly told me neither to get caught nor surrender. So I booked into a hotel in Nalasopara. But when I left the hotel to meet my lawyer, I got caught.”
