Ambedkar memorial will be built in 3 phases: CM

Dalit leader Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's memorial at Indu Mill will be constructed in three phases and designed by an international architect, announced chief minister Prithviraj Chavan in the ongoing winter session in Nagpur on Friday.
While replying to the debate in the state council, Chavan announced that the state government will ensure that sufficient funds are allocated for the memorial and suggestions from all parties will be taken into consideration while finalising the design.
“After conceptualising the memorial in the first phase, the design by an architect of international stature will be made in the second phase and the design will be implemented in the second and third phases,” Chavan said.
Members from the Opposition had raised doubts about the delay in handing over the Indu Mill land to the state government.
While Ashish Shelar of the BJP pointed out that crucial decisions about the transfer are yet to be taken and it may take months, Vijay Girkar, also of the BJP, said the decision about the memorial was taken 56 years after the death of Dr Ambedkar.
Manikrao Thakre, state Congress president, replied that his party was not into “credit business”, instead his party leaders had taken enormous efforts to get the requisite permission from the Centre.
