Log on to download your Aadhaar card

Log on to download your Aadhaar card
There is good news for those who had enrolled for an Aadhaar card many months ago and still haven’t received it. They will now be able to download it from the Aadhaar website.

The central government, in a move to hasten the process, is now allowing applicants to download the cards online on eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in, and will provide centres for free printing of the same. All you have to do is list the details that are on the receipt given to you at the time of enrolment.

The state is planning to allow the downloading and printing of the cards at a cost of Rs2. “It is not difficult for the urban population to get the cards printed, but in the rural areas, we have to provide special facilities to the people who have enrolled,” said an official from the information and technology department.

“Apart from the facility centres at the district level, the downloading and printing of the cards will also be made available at government-run common service centres (CSCs) at the tehsil level at nominal rates,” the official added.

Although over 4.5 crore people in the state have applied for Aadhaar cards, less than 40% applicants have received them so far. Of the total, over 75 lakh applicants are from Mumbai and its suburbs.
“We have been receiving complaints from those who haven’t received the cards, but the Indian Post is responsible for the cards’ despatch. Although their site claims the cards have been delivered, they sometimes take months to reach the holders,” the official said.

The government has said that the downloaded printout will have the same status as the actual card. The official also added that even if an applicant downloads the card, the original card will still be delivered to him or her.

  1. Aadhaar is a very good initiative from the Indian govt. especially when it comes with the intention of providing benefits to the poor people of the country. I do appreciate these efforts but Aadhar Card needs some improvement to make it a nation-wide success.
