Ratan Tata
Chairman, Tata Sons
As helmsman
of the salt-to-software conglomerate, Ratan Tata weathered what was
probably the biggest controversy to hit the country’s most respected
busines house. He emerged unscathed from the rubble of telecom, gave a
fillip to his dream project Nano, and commissioned India's biggest
single-location power plant. In his final year as chairman, Tata not
only facilitated an unbiased selection of a much younger gun as
chairman, but is also making sure that the transition is as ethical as
he is.
It was hard to
imagine anyone
upgrading the pristine
image of the House of Tata, but Ratan Tata has done it. The way he went
global and orchestrated his succession has been remarkable. It is not a
wise man who bets against Tata.
