At the core of Diwali celebrations is the bursting of
fire crackers. But this year, you will have to shell out a few extra
bucks to purchase your favourite crackers.
“Compared to last year,
there has been a considerable increase in the prices of fire crackers.
There is about a 15% increase due to the steep rise in transportation
and manufacturing costs. However, people still buy them,” said the
president of a fireworks association. The popular ones — sparklers,
flower pots, chakras, red fort crackers and sky bombs — have registered
the highest sales.
In fact, a few people spend as much as Rs40,000 to
Rs50,000 on crackers. “For many bursting crackers is matter of
prestige. There are many people in the city who purchase crackers worth
more than a lakh,” said a stall owner.
