दीड सेकंदाच्या फरकाने वाचले तरुणाचे प्राण - one and half seconds difference saved life in local railway

दीड सेकंदाच्या फरकाने वाचले तरुणाचे प्राण
one and half seconds difference saved life in local railway

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan gets summons for smoking at Jaipur stadium

SRK gets summons for smoking at Jaipur stadium
Already buffeted by controversies, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan on Tuesday found himself in fresh legal trouble as he got summons issued by a court in Rajasthan to appear before it on May 26 in a case related to his smoking in public at a stadium in Jaipur during an IPL match.
Khan, co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), had been directed by a local court in Jaipur to appear before it on May 26 after he was seen smoking at the stadium. Taking cognisance of a complaint filed by a cricket academy, the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate(ACJM) Shilpa Sameer summoned the actor. In his complaint, Anand Singh, who runs the Jaipur Cricket Academy, sought action against Khan under section 5/11 of Rajasthan Prohibition of Smoking Act, 2000, which prohibits smoking at a public place.
“Two cops from Rajasthan police department came here today (Tuesday). A policeman from our police station accompanied the Rajasthan cop to the residence (Mannat) of the actor where the summons was given,” said an officer at Bandra police station on condition of anonymity.
Since the actor was not at his residence, the summons were handed over to his personal assistants, the officer said.
According to the petitioner, Khan was seen smoking at Swai Man Singh Stadium on April 8 this year during a match between Rajasthan Royals and KKR. Singh filed the complaint on April 9 in which he claimed pictures of Khan puffing away were published in newspapers the next day.
Singh’s counsel said there is a provision of cash penalty of Rs200 for violation of the Act for the first time. Khan has also been in the news lately due to his involvement in a scuffle at Wankhede Stadium with Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials after he was not allowed to stay in the stadium after the match came to an end. This has led to an imposition of a five-year ban on the actor’s entry into the venue.

Dalvi is Sena’s new ‘poster’ boy Party to felicitate Wankhede Stadium security guard

Dalvi is Sena’s new ‘poster’ boy
Party to felicitate Wankhede Stadium security guard

In the ongoing battle against actor Shah Rukh Khan, Wankhede Stadium guard Vikas Dalvi has found another ally in the Shiv Sena, after party members on Monday lauded the guard for his ‘good work’.
The Sena has put up posters across the city showering praises on Dalvi for putting up a brave front against Khan in the nasty brawl that ensued between him and MCAofficials at the stadium on May 17. The MNS has also announced that it will felicitate Dalvi.
The Sena poster (see above) says, “Arey Shabbash! Kadvad Marathya, Tujhe Salam. Uddam, tarrar Shah Rukh Khanala, security guard Vikas Dalvi Shikavali addad.” (Bravo! Staunch Marathi, greetings. You teach a lesson to aggressive and rude Shah Rukh Khan.)”
When asked about the posters, Shiv Sena spokesperson Harshal Pradhan said,”Dalvi didn’t lose his cool even before the aggressive Shah Rukh Khan who was showing off his wealth. Dalvi deserves the praise, that’s why we are praising him. There is no politics behind it.”
The party may also felicitate Dalvi much like the MNS has proposed to. But Pradhan denied that their plans had anything to do with the rival party. “We don’t even count the MNS. We are a 48-year-old party and they are just two years old.” And even though the poster mentions ‘kadvad Marathya’, Pradhan denies that this bears any reference to the Marathi Manoos issue.

Two critically endangered birds find no mention in MoEF list

Two critically endangered birds find no mention in MoEF list
Union minister Jayanthi natarajan releases a book updating the list of birds facing a threat when her own ministry has not done it as yet

The ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) is yet to catch up with the ground reality of the number of species of critically endangered birds in the country. When environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan released a book on Tuesday, which updates the list of birds facing a threat of extinction in India, it perhaps escaped her mind that the ministry’s official list is outdated.
Experts say since this leaves some endangered species out of the ministry’s purview, they face a risk of becoming extinct.
Released as a booklet in March 2011 by the MoEF, the ‘Critically endangered animal species of India’ was the first such list put out by the ministry. It names the species of critically endangered birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fishes, spiders and corals.
The book released by Natarajan, ‘Threatened Birds of India — Their Conservation Requirements’, is a comprehensive reference book. It uses the BirdLife/International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) 2011 list as a base and provides India-specific data. The book, written by reputed ornithologist Dr Asad Rehmani, who serves as the director of the Bombay Natural History Society, names 15 critically endangered, 15 endangered, 52 vulnerable, 66 near threatened and two data deficient bird species, as well as five others with only stray records in India.
The MoEF’s booklet, however, names only 13 critically endangered species of birds — the Jerdon’s Courser, the forest owlet, the white-bellied heron, the white-backed vulture, the slender-billed vulture, the long-billed vulture, the red-headed vulture, the Bengal Florican, the Himalayan quail, the pink-headed duck, the sociable lapwing, the spoon-billed sandpiper and the Siberian crane; the Christmas Island frigatebird and the great Indian bustard have been left out.
Despite repeated attempts, Natarajan was unable for comments.
Rehmani tried to play down the issue, adding that the MoEf’s list may be outdated because it was based on data collected in 2010. The great Indian bustard was added to the IUCN list only in 2011. He, however, minced no words in expressing his displeasure with the conservation measures. “In this country, no conservation activity looks beyond tigers.”
