THE IB AND IGCSE BOARDS OFFER A RANGE OF PROGRAMMES FOR STUDENTS ACROSS AGE GROUPS. HERE IS A LIST OF WHAT CAN BE PURSUED

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE he International Baccalaureate board offers three levels Tof programmes for students across age groups. The Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD).
>> THE PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME Meant for students between three to 12 years of age, the PYP was initiated in 1997. The programme focuses on the holistic development of the child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and the outside world. It addresses the student’s academic, social and emotional well-being and is defined by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, explored using knowledge and skills derived from six subject areas, with a powerful emphasis on inquiry-based learning.
>> THE MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME (MYP) The MYP caters to students aged 11 to 16 years. The focus is to enable students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasises intellectual challenge, encouraging students to understand and apply their classroom lessons into the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement. It builds upon the lessons of the PYP and prepares students to meet the academic challenges of the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related Certificate (IBCC).
>> THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA (IBD) The IB Diploma programme caters to students aged 16-19 years. The diploma programme teaches students various techniques of learning and grounds them culturally. It helps them communicate better and understand global people from different countries and cultures.
IB Diploma Programme lets students choose one subject from of five groups, which include two language components, social science, experimental science and mathematics. This ensures that students are exposed to a wide knowledge base. Creativity action and services entails students participating in various activities in the area of creativity, action and service. This means that they work on activities ranging from music and painting to sports and community service.
>> CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL EXAMINATIONS (CIE) Cambridge International Examinations provides international education programmes and qualifications for students aged 5 to 19 years. The IGCSE board offers the Cambridge Primary Programme, Cambridge Secondary I programme, Cambridge Secondary II programme (Cambridge IGCSE/ Cambridge O Level) and the Cambridge International AS and A Level

>> CAMBRIDGE SECONDARY I Cambridge Secondary I is designed for learners aged 11 to 14 years. The programme gives schools a flexible framework for developing skills and understanding English, math and science. The curriculum framework for each subject – English, English as a second language, mathematics and science provides a clear teaching structure that is designed to engage learners in an active and creative learning journey, one reason why it is used by a number of schools globally. Many schools use the Cambridge Secondary I testing structure to assess learner performances. The two assessment methods used for this programme are Cambridge Secondary I progression tests where students are marked for their work in school and the Cambridge Secondary I checkpoint where the student is marked by external examiners affiliated to the CIE.

CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION >> CAMBRIDGE PRIMARY PROGRAMME Tlearners he Cambridge aged 5 Primary to 11 year programme . The programme is developed combines for young unique curriculum, high-quality support for teachers and integrated assessment. There is a Cambridge Primary curriculum
framework for each subject – English, English as a second language, mathematics and science – providing a clear teaching structure. The curriculum enables learners to communicate confidently and effectively and to develop the critical skills to respond to a range of information, media and texts with understanding and enjoyment. Many schools use the integrated assessment to monitor the learners’ progress. The programme also offers high-quality support to teachers; including teaching materials and training to them plan and deliver the programme efficiently. Cambridge Secondary I assessment uses internationally benchmarked tests, giving parents extra trust in the feedback they receive.
>> CAMBRIDGE SECONDARY II (CAMBRIDGE IGCSE/ CAMBRIDGE O LEVEL) Cambridge IGCSE, one of the most popular international qualifications for 14 to 16 year olds. It is recognised a number of universities and employers worldwide. Developed over 25 years ago, the curricula is tried, tested and trusted by schools and universities worldwide. The Cambridge IGCSE curriculum offers a variety of routes for learners with a wide range of abilities, including those whose first language is not English. Students can choose from over 70 subjects, including 30 languages, and can choose subjects in the combination of their choice. Cambridge O
Level is an internationally recognised qualification equivalent to Cambridge IGCSE and the UK GCSE.
>> CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL AS AND A LEVEL Over a thousand students gain places at leading universities every year with Cambridge International AS and A Level qualification. The syllabus develops a deep understanding of subjects and independent thinking skills. With over 55 subjects offered, schools can choose and offer a combination of subjects of their choice. This flexibility allows schools to build an individualised curriculum, and learners can choose to specialise in a particular subject area or study a range of subjects. BUILDING A STRONG FOUNDATION

RAJ BHUVA, A CLASS X IGCSE STUDENT AT DHIRUBHAI AMBANI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SHARES HOW AN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION HAS AIDED HIS HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT

Irecollect a 13-year-old me romanticising the hardships and intimidating challenges that the IGCSE course was going to confront me with. And now as I step into its final year, I cannot help but smile at the roller coaster ride the journey has been.
IGCSE has completely altered the way I look at academics today. Laying a greater emphasis on critical thinking and application skills, the course has the potential to transform teenagers into creative thinkers with global perspectives and cultural awareness.
Initially, it can be quite daunting to cope up with the completely different way in which one is taught. Luckily for me, the much required skill of note-making wasn’t really a problem. The completely application-based questions in tests continued to catch one off
guard. But I eventually realised that the key to doing well in any subject lay in fortifying one’s concepts as a foundation and to then use it in any tricky scenario that the course might present. But, even being puzzled by such situations is an amazing learning experience in itself; it elicited nothing but a different, acute manner of thinking from me.
It’s true that at some point the course can prove to be very taxing, especially in class IX and X, but needless to say it does have its advantages. My English
coursework, for instance, was a great opportunity for me to explore the various styles of effective writing while honing my skills of research and structuring ideas or arguments. Even my science lab reports, whose pickiness and length I perpetually would crib about, ironically made me realise the importance of following an established order of scientific enquiry.
It was during class IX that another side of the IGCSE was revealed to me — one that dealt with the course and the exams
from an examiner’s point of view. I understood that the course was not driven simply on ‘knowledge’ of the syllabi but also required one to interpret what exactly a question demanded and therefore craft an ideal answer. Thus, the course also had a technical aspect to it which could not be aced by solely knowing all the curriculum content. I have since learned to work smart and not necessarily hard.
    The unique educational
environment that my school provided has helped me immensely benefit from the IGCSE curriculum and pedagogy. The Dhirubhai Ambani International School Model United Nations (DAIMUN), exchange programmes, community service initiatives, TEDx talks, Round Square and DAIS Leadership Series with talks by leaders from many walks of life, are amongst the opportunities that became an integral part of our studies.
In short, through its academic rigour and very demanding syllabus requirements, the IGCSE has imparted me the valuable attributes of time-management, research, innovative thinking, global outlook and the courage to think out-of-the-box. It has indeed been an enriching experience to be part of the IGCSE programme at DAIS.

10 MUST HAVES FOR YOUR LUXURY HOME

10 MUST HAVES FOR YOUR LUXURY HOME

PURNIMA GOSWAMI SHARMA LISTS DOWN THE TEN ASPECTS A LUXURY HOME CAN’T DO WITHOUT

Ahome provides for comfort and security; however, that's not all. Today, the new age buyer desires a better standard of living. Besides being functionally and aesthetically attractive, the home should have a luxury quotient like imposing architecture, recreation facilities, green landscape and most importantly, it should be a smart home. Luxury means leading a life of comfort, happiness and pride.

Listed below are ten aspects that a luxury home should essentially have.

SMART HOMES Luxury homes should have excellent, smart, home technology. After all, who wouldn't love the idea of walking into a home in which the lights switch on as soon as one steps in. From automatic blinds, hidden media devices, lighting, climate control, security and surveillance functions like bio-metric locks, integrated burglar alarms, to electronic surveillance and more, a luxury home can get it all.

GREEN LIVING A luxurious home ideally should blend elements of nature and
modern amenities and create an inviting living space. So, green living, incorporated in a stylish lifestyle, is the new age mantra. A home should have solar panels for energy. Windows and skylights should also be located at planned points, as they provide the house with adequate sunlight and ventilation. Also, a must-have is a water harvesting and water recycling plant. Energy efficient windows and doors, betterinsulated wall assemblies, energy star appliances and high efficiency AC systems, are essential, along with occupancy sensors, which automatically switch off the lights if the rooms are unoccupied.

FITNESS FACILITIES A luxury home owner now expects his home to provide complete health and wellness amenities. Exercise rooms, mediation, yoga room or gymnasium, is indeed a luxury in most Mumbai homes today. A swimming pool is also a muchneeded addition to a home, as it adds
to the relaxing feeling after a long and busy day.

LUXURY IN THE KITCHEN The kitchen is the heart of the home; the choice of appliances is an important part of a luxe kitchen. It should include expensive stone or steel bedecked islands, high-end finishes, a touch-screen microwave, high-tech refrigerator, an expresso coffee machine, designer kitchen
utensils, easy-to-clean finishes like high gloss lacquer and soft closing cabinets and designer hardware.

GLAMOROUS BATHROOM A glamorous bathroom is a must-have to ensure a luxury bathing experience. A little planning can make a lot of difference in the way one de-stresses at home.
Relaxing Jacuzzis, multiple sprays shower panels, bath mixers and most importantly, a huge bath tub with a whirlpool massage, are great
accessories to indulge in, for a soothing spa experience. A bathroom should have luxe materials that spell elegance, such as a mother of pearl inlay work on the counter top or gold plated trimmings in finishings.

GARDEN A green patch, be it on a terrace or a lawn, is much-desired in urban homes today. Lush greenery purifies the air and plants are helpful in creating a peaceful, restful ambiance. A jogging track and well-landscaped Zen style garden, a water fountain and play area for kids, are the amenities that an owner should have in his luxe home.

ENTERTAINMENT ZONE Private home theaters have become more and more popular today. Home theatres typically include large reclining seats, so that film viewing is enjoyed in a comfortable
    environment. These rooms
include TVs, DVD players, in addition to satellite systems and video game equipment for larger-than-life entertainment experiences. Most homes have separate entertainment areas with a home theater and a comfortable seating arrangement.

WALK-IN CLOSETS Owning a sprawling house or a high-end apartment alone, doesn't constitute

luxurious living. A spacious home must have a well-organised walk-in closet too. Such a closet enables the user to walk in and dress up with ease, as it has specifically designed shelves, such as separate areas for clothes, shoes, accessories and a huge mirror.

ELEGANT DÉCOR With the increasing awareness for different design styles and the rise in purchasing power, international décor styles are in vogue. Trends include pastel shades, uncluttered spaces and soft mood lighting. Furniture has been transformed into a piece of art, which adds elegance, whether it is a sofa, a loveseat, a chair or a couch. Inject grandeur in the bedroom with a four poster bed. Stick to luxurious fabrics such as velvet, brocade and satin. Typically rich fabrics have textures that you can see as well as feel. Deep bold colours in silks and velvets, will add a luxurious touch to a room.

TREASURED ARTEFACTS A classy personal touch enhances a home's interior but speaks volumes about one's personality. Let your treasured antiques be displayed alongside handpicked knick-knacks from around the world, in your abode. Add a personal touch to your home with heirloom pieces, which are always a part of uber rich homes; display your antique silverware, silk, crystal and delicate ceramic pieces and carpets. A luxurious home should be a royal haven. Gold and silver colours have always been synonymous with precious, rich, refined and sumptuous luxury environments.
A luxurious home is a sanctuary that is welcoming, comforting and tranquil for those who can afford living in style!
