IISc, IIT-B make Rolls-Royce jet engines quieter
Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science here and IIT-Bombay have helped develop a low-noise technology for Rolls-Royce aircraft engines that are fitted in long-haul planes like Boeing 747s and Dreamliners.
After a tripartite pact between Rolls-Royce and research groups in IISC, IIT-B and London’s Imperial College, work started in the laboratories in 2006 and the technology was recently delivered. Developed using shape memory alloys, it cuts engine noise during landing and take-off.
