How can one define beauty?

How can one define beauty?

The Bible says, "Let your beauty not be the external braiding of hair and wearing of gold jewellery, but the lasting beauty of a gentle and tranquil spirit… Often in our frenzied pursuit of beauty, we lose sight of that which is not visible — the beauty of the soul."
The story is told of the sage Tulsidas. So enamoured was he of his lovely wife, that he once crossed the raging river in a raft, and climbed up a window with the help of a rope, all to meet her. She came. She saw. And with deep pity, she said, "Look behind you! So besotted were you that you have used a dead body for a boat and a snake for a rope! If only you could love God so!" The world owes the creation of Tulsidas to her wise words.
The Yajur Veda says, "The attractiveness of personality is the glow of one's inner radiance." In the ninth century, a young girl, beautiful and good, deep in a village in Tamil Nadu, was being prepared for marriage. "You are too lovely to stay single," said her mother. The girl sat in prayer. From the purity of an innocent heart, she appealed for escape. And the miracle happened. The next morning, her parents awoke to see an old woman in place of their lovely daughter. Freed of the burden of youth, the girl soon transformed herself into the beloved, wandering minstrel Avvaiyar, probably more beautiful now than before. For, character, wisdom, integrity — are they not other words for beauty?
