Teachers too have become indifferent, Canteen culture is not new to campuses.

Canteen culture is not new to campuses.
A college canteen is a place for students to meet, hang out and discuss notes.
But canteen owners recall the time when teachers too had time to drop in, mingle with students and also give them an extra dose of lessons.
They now miss the teachers, who used to have a look at the kitchen before eating.
"A few years ago, teachers used to drop in the canteen for a bite. They used to chit chat with students too. We knew that we could be pulled up if we don't maintain cleanliness," said a canteenwala from a south Mumbai college.
"We are relaxed now as teachers don't come and students are not bothered about what they eat. But, we have few people and numerous orders from teachers."
Teachers say they hardly have time to go to the canteen.
"Going to the canteen takes time so I order. But our canteen is hygienic and I need not to worry," said Hemlata Bagla, vice-principal of KC College.
Moreover, the college canteen is always teeming with students.
"All teachers in our college order over phone. The canteen committee visits it every month," said Mridula Deosthali, vice-principal of Vaze College.
According to sources, the canteen committees do not check whether vegetables are washed, products have crossed their expiry date or food cooked in healthy way. "Nutrition is an alien word here," they said.
Students are least bothered whether they are having nutritious food.
"If we serve daal-roti, students choose not to have them. Frankies and noodles are popular among them," said Ravinder Singh, canteen contractor of Khalsa College.
