RK cartoons to come alive on TV

RK cartoons to come alive on TV

The first ever common man depicted by legendary cartoonist RK Laxman had simple problems in a rather simple life. Today's common man may face more complex issues during his course of life. However, there is one common factor among both generations, which is the hope for life that the common man has in abundance."
This was the way the "new common man" described by artists as well as the crew of a serial based on thousands of cartoons of RK Laxman.
The serial RK Laxman ki Duniya will be aired on Sab TV from November 28.
To celebrate the launch of the serial, five leading cartoonists were asked to depict their own perception of today's common man. The serial sees an older common man (Krishnakant Vasavda) with his son being today's common man. Noted Marathi theatre and movie star Atul Parchure plays the leading role of Bhavesh Vasavda—who is being shown as today's common man. "I have worked in similar Marathi plays depicting the worries of a common man. These art forms were written by the legendary Marathi writer PL Deshpande. I find working as a common man easier because of those previous experiences," said Parchure.
"The man is a perfectionist. I used to observe him closely during the making of Wagale ki Duniya when he almost wrote the entire episode. It was a wonderful experience. I hope the new form of RK Laxman ki Duniya turns out to be as exciting as well," said Usha Laxman, the daughter-in-law of the legendary cartoonist.
Usha Laxman and a few close associates of RK Laxman will be keeping a close watch on the contents of RK Laxman ki Duniya, according to Anooj Kapoor, business head of Sab TV.
"The idea is to let the new generation know what the common man is. Each of the thousands of cartoons penned by RK is worth an episode. However, today the common man has a more tedious task dealing with the family. The aspirations are roaring high and the dreams are getting bigger. However, in any case he is still a very optimistic person. This is what the gist of our serial is," said director JD Majithia.
