Travelling unlimited in the BEST' s non-AC buses using daily passes has got costlier.

BEST does away with Rs. 25-pass

Travelling unlimited in the BEST' s non-AC buses using daily passes has got costlier.
The BEST discontinued issuing passes worth Rs25 from November 1. Commuters will now have to pay Rs40 if they want to travel longer distances and also carry identity cards issued by the BEST Undertaking by paying an additional amount.
The BEST administration said the reason to discontinue the Rs25 passes was that the daily unlimited passes were being misused, leading to heavy financial losses.
Corporators from the opposition parties who are part of the BEST committee condemned the move.
"The identity card concept was implemented on daily bus passes to curb misuse. In spite of introducing ID cards, the administration is going ahead with its decision despite the opposition," said Ravi Raja, senior Congress corporator.
BEST general manager Om Prakash Gupta defended the move saying it was an unavoidable decision. "The issue was discussed and only then a decision was taken. Financial losses and misuse were the two most serious reasons for us to discontinue issuing the pass," he said.
