Kalwa sports complex gets going

Kalwa sports complex gets going

A couple of weeks after officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) visited Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex at Balewadi in Pune to study its infrastructure, the district sports office in Thane is ready to set up similar facilities at the proposed state-of-the-art sports complex in Kalwa.
“Last week, we submitted a detailed report to the district collector regarding the facilities to be available at the sports complex. He is happy with the way the work is progressing. He has asked us to ensure that all the necessary steps are taken to turn the proposal into reality,” said an official from the district sports office.
The collector, who took charge as the new administrative head last month, is positive about setting up the international-standard sports facility. He has assured of all possible help in clearing the administrative hurdles in setting up the complex, the official said.
“He has asked us to take possession of the plot in Kharegaon in Kalwa where the sports complex will come up once the mapping is done by the land mapping department,” the official added. “We had taken PWD officials to Pune a fortnight ago. They were given a detailed presentation of the infrastructure in Balewadi, which was constructed for the 1994 National Games held in the cultural capital of the state. Officials studied the facilities so as that they could be included at Kalwa,” the official said. When asked whether similar facilities can be made available at Kalwa since the area of the proposed sports complex is just 19.5 hectares, the official said the purpose of conducting the feasibility study was to figure out that possibility .
“We might not have such a huge infrastructure at Kalwa as that in Balewadi, but the facilities to be provided here will be the same regardless of its size,” the official added.
