School unleashes WebGenie on terror
With parents increasingly being worried about the safety of their wards due to rising terror threats, a city school has come up with a unique idea to allay their fears.
EuroSchool has launched a web-based platform called WebGenie, which will allow parents to track their child's schoolbus using Global Positioning System (GPS). "Using the 24x7 portal, parents can keep a track of the schoolbus with the GPS tracking system. If they find the movement suspicious, they can immediately get in touch with the school or bus authorities," Natasha Mehta, principal of EuroSchool, Airoli, said.
"EuroSchool WebGenie is a very unique initiative. It has enabled effective communication between parents and the school. Today's young parents get so involved with their work that it becomes difficult for them to visit the school every time. Instead they can just use WebGenie and keep track of the activities of their child," she said.
Besides security concerns, parents can check the child's assignments or read the school notice or download the weekly readings at their own convenience. The platform aims to make it easier for the parents to know about their child's activities in school and keep track of their progress as the portal gives access to all the activities in the school, including the attendance of students, the assignments as well as the assessment results.
Parents can place orders for photo prints or Video DVD's that are displayed in the galleries. They can also purchase school essentials like uniforms, shoes, books from the product gallery.
Jagruti Gada , mother of a student, said: "This is an innovative way of bridging the gap between parents and the school. It saves both time and other resources such as paper. It allows me to keep a closer track of my child's achievements in school."
