252 Bangla immigrants arrested in six days
The special branch of the Mumbai police tightened its noose around Bangladeshi immigrants who are illegally residing in the city and arrested 252 after raids in Thane rural and Navi Mumbai in the past six days. They have arrested a total of 1,308 immigrants this year.

Out of the 252 arrested, 56 were women, 64 were children and the remaining were men, a majority of whom work at construction sites. The police have not spared the persons who hire these immigrants as well and have booked 28 contractors this year.

“Any person found hiring Bangladeshis for either domestic or commercial purposes will be booked,” said Sanjay Shintre, deputy commissioner of police, Special Branch-1.

He added that none of those who were arrested were involved in any illegal activities. “However, considering their living conditions, they can be a threat to the city’s security.”
