Cidco confident of completing Metro rail project by 2014
CBD BELAPUR: The ambitious Rs 2,000 crore metro rail project of Navi
Mumbai is on target and the City and Industrial Development Corporation
(CIDCO) is confident of completing it by December 2014. The services are
expected to begin three months later from April 2015, once all the
systems are in place. The project was launched on May 1 in 2011 by chief
minister Prithviraj Chavan.
The metro line in the first phase is being laid between Belapur and Pendhar. The corridor taken up by CIDCO is 21.45 km long and has been divided into three phases i.e. Belapur-Pendhar (11.10 km), Khandeshwar-Taloja (8.35 km) and the MIDC route that will connect the two corridors (2.2 km). It will provide connectivity to the proposed international airport in Navi Mumbai.
The Metro railway project has been divided into 4 parts i.e. viaduct, stations, depot and systems. In the first stage, which will cost Rs 305 crore, work i s underway for construction of viaducts.

The viaduct work has been taken up in two separate parts. One is
between Belapur and sector 14, Kharghar and the second part is between
sector 14, Kharghar to Pendhar.
A total of 143 piers will be required between Belapur and Kharghar and 185 piers between Kharghar to Pendhar. The hoisting of girders along with the development of piers is being undertaken simultaneously to save time.
Stated CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director Tanaji Satre, “I have given strict instructions to the contractors to ensure only the best sand is used for the construction of the piers.
