Gudi Padwa Shobha yatra, Thane

Shobha Yatra is a procession that takes place in the city every year to welcome the New Year according to the Hindu calendar. In Thane, it is organised by the Kopineshwar Mandir trust, which started this tradition in 2002 and has maintained it till date.
The yatra begins with the palanquin (palkhi) of Lord Kopineshwar who is considered to be the gram daivat of Thane.
The palanquin starts from Kopineshwar temple, Jambhli naka and is taken through popular spots Talao Pali, Ram Maruti road and Panchpakhadi.
A traditional Shobha Yatra comprises different cultural activities such as lehjim performances and Tarpa dances. There are colourful floats (jhaankis) depicting the rich culture of Maharashtra.
