Navratri, or the nine nights of garba, is observed every year to invoke Goddess Durga, who bestows wealth, knowledge and the strength to face hardships in life.
During these nine days, the mata is worshipped by the Hindu community. In Thane, one gets to see various kinds of celebrations as several communities participate in the festivities. For instance, Bengalis organise Durga Puja in pandals, while Gujaratis play raas garbas and dandiya during the nine nights.
Maharastrians, too, organise Bondla, where people come together to dance on the beats of Bondla, which is similar to garba.
