Parents must support school’s initiative

Parents must support school’s initiative
This refers to “Panvel school wants only clean-shaven boys,” published in DNA’s issue dated December 14, 2012.

Both my children are studying in the Panvel school. As a parent, I believe that children have two main educators in their lives — parents and teachers. Parents are the prime educators until the child starts going to school and they remain a major influence on their children’s learning throughout school and beyond. The school and parents both have crucial roles to play.

Both help the child form desirable behavioural patterns, healthy habits and positive attitudes in personal and social life.

In the name of freedom, we are fast losing our culture. But students must be disciplined. As a role model, parents must ensure that their children are well disciplined as no school or college can teach discipline.

Even boys of classes VII and VIII are seen riding two-wheelers, while class X boys ride high-speed motorbikes. We have witnessed many accidents in so many years and there seems to be no end to it. But how many parents realise this?

They need to keep an eye on their wards. Is it necessary for parents to provide costly mobile phones to a school-going child? They must help the child with his studies rather that buying them costly valuables.

Students must too follow rules laid down by a school, especially when it comes to the school timings, uniforms, being punctual, presentable and organised. If a school’s management is taking initiatives in the interest of the students, as a parent we must support them, instead of blaming the school.
