Around 4am, three masked men barged into the Andhra Bank ATM kiosk at Mori Road, which is hardly a kilometre away from the Mahim police station. The guard, Rohidas Rajput, 30, was seated inside. “While one of them pulled the shutter down, the other two threw chilli powder in Rajput’s eyes,” said Kishore Sawant, inspector, Mahim police station.
The trio then allegedly beat up Rajput using a stick. “They tied him up and hit him on the head. For 15 minutes, they tried to break open the machine using hammers and other tools,” said another security guard for the kiosk, who checked the CCTV footage later.
After trying unsuccessfully for some time, they fled. Rajput managed to free himself and contact his employers, who then alerted the police. He was taken to the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, from where he was discharged later in the day.
The footage has been captured in the CCTV cameras at the kiosk. “As their faces were covered, we have not been able to identify them,” said Sawant.
The Mahim police have registered a case of attempt to robbery against three unidentified men. The police suspect that the three are locals who had surveyed the spot several times.
