Home guard hurt in the eye at Currey Road stn
A Home Guard personnel patrolling at Currey Road station sustained a severe injury to her right eye when an unidentified person in a CST-bound slow local threw a hard object at her on Thursday night.
Urmila Adgaonkar’s husband Laxman said, “Urmila and a female colleague of hers, BB Yadav, were on night duty at Currey Road station. At 9.45pm, a CST-bound slow local stopped at the station. As it was leaving, someone threw something at her, presumably a stone.”
“Yadav took her to the RPF office in Byculla by train for first aid. The on-duty RPF officer there advised her to visit Babasaheb Ambedkar hospital in Byculla,” Laxman added. “A doctor there treated her eye and advised her to visit JJ hospital for a check-up.” Urmila, however, refused to speak about the incident.
Prakash Kirdat, senior inspector with Dadar GRP, said, “We have recorded Urmila Adgaonkar’s statement. We believe it wasn’t a stone and it wasn’t a deliberate act either. Someone probably threw something out of the train and it accidentally hit her.”
Sameer Zaveri, railway activist, said, “RPF personnel should patrol on the tracks to prevent such incidents, deliberate or otherwise.”
