Mumbai police organise workshop at Welingker Institute of Management to train youngsters

The Mumbai police on Wednesday took their training sessions to colleges and schools. The students were given training on how to tackle crime and related incidents.
Different school and college principals attended the workshop organised by the Mumbai police at the Welingker Institute of Management, Matunga, on Wednesday. The workshop focused
at having a dialogue with the youngsters to prevent city crime.
Ajit Singh, Director of the Khalsa College, who attended the programme, said, “The workshop was an insightful. Only heads of the academic institutes attended this workshop, so it will rather be more informative if conducted for students directly. We have decided to conduct the workshop in colleges.”
The campaign, Alert Mumbaikar, cited some examples of city crime incidents which could have been easily avoided if the citizens remained more alert.
Harsha Mehta, principal of the SIES college, said, “What precautions should be taken while employing people for jobs such as domestic help, driver etc. What care can be taken in the house infrastructure to prevent crime? Such important but generally missed points were taken care of in this workshop. Academic institute heads were called to gain their support to conduct such workshops at college levels.” Mehta
added, “This is definitely a healthy exercise to increase communication between the police and youngsters. This will change the next generation’s approach towards the police and more and more citizens will come forward in case of a crime without fearing the police.”
“We met vice-principals and teachers who handle NSS and NCC. We spoke about terrorism as we want them to be aware about the topic. Students are busy with exams so once they will get free, we will be meeting them and their teachers can also share knowledge about the topic,” said additional commissioner of police Praveen Salunkhe from the central region.
