Vishwakarma gets a grand welcome in satellite city

Vishwakarma gets a grand welcome in satellite city

Vishwakarma puja was recently performed at few shops in the satellite city that use tools like the hammer and the chisel on a daily basis. The shops remained shut till afternoon on that day as the worksmen were not allowed to use any tool till the puja got over. Lord Vishwakarma is known to be the official builder of all the God's palaces and the weapons as well.
Ashok Saha from Loknath Refrigeration at Sector 11 in Vashi says that Vishwakarma puja was performed in a grand manner at his establishment. "We had decorated the idol of Lord Vishwakarma, who is known to be the presiding deity during the puja. In Hindu mythology, Lord Vishwakarma is full of architectural wonders. It is generally believed that any workman who uses a hammer for doing his work is considered to perform this puja. Since past 13 years, I am performing this puja in my shop."
Since everybody did not have an idol of Lord Vishwakarma in their shop they performed the puja in front of the Lord's picture. It was mostly the carpenters in the city who were seen conducting this puja. Durga Ramprasad, a carpenter from Sector 9 in Vashi says, "I along with a few other carpenters had performed the puja this year. This is how we do it every year wherein around 7-8 people get together and perform the puja. These days we do not have to do anything much and the pandit himself gets all the things which are needed to perform the puja. The entire puja lasts for around two hours and most people are known to perform the puja during the morning time."
Most workmen say that it is ideal to perform the puja within the shop itself. Fulchand Misad, a carpenter from Sector 7 in Vashi says, "On this day we clean all the machines which we use on a daily basis. Once we are done with performing the puja we serve sweets to everyone who had gathered." A unique case was that of Bheem Sarkar, who works at Hotel Parichay in Vashi. He participated in a Vishwakarma puja on the day of the festival in the city. "Most of my family members in Kolkata are carpenters by profession and even I was in the same profession as long as I was there. However, once I shifted to Mumbai I started working in a hotel. But still I attend a Vishwakarma puja," says Sarkar.
