Once hush about talking anything intimate, B-Towners, today, are comfortable, publicly talking about adoption, IVF, and even surrogacy

Farah KHAN Pushing the envelope comes naturally to Farah Khan. Her journey from choregrapher to being one of the most successful commercial filmmakers is an inspiring one. At 43, when most women stop thinking of conceiving, Farah determined to be a mother, conceived through IVF and gave birth to triplets. This has inspired many women to give motherhood a shot… even if they’re over 40s!

Bollywood of today is a far cry from the time a Bollywood heroine passed off her casual ‘drink’ as a cold drink. Actor Aamir Khan announcing the birth of his baby boy through IVF (in vitro fertilization) surrogacy on Monday, is an addition, and a more significant one, in showing a Bollywood star coming of age as an individual. A healthy trend, say many, as role models impact a large segment of the population.

Sushmita SEN Adoption was a nudgenudge word in B-Town until Sushmita Sen, fresh from Ms Universe days, an actor, single and in her early twenties, adopted her first baby in 2000. It soon became cool to at least adopt one baby in the family. In 2000, she adopted a daughter, named Renée and topped it again by adopting another girl, Alisah on January 13, 2010. Sush continues to be single, but flaunts her motherhood like any proud mother — married or unmarried

AISHWARYA Rai-Bachchan Many expected a former beauty queen and actor Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan to opt for C-section, especially at the age of 38. But Ash did the unexpected — she rejected C-section and stuck to the normal birth procedure. This, say experts, has encouraged women to choose the ‘natural way’ out for birthing than caesareans.

Lisa RAY Not many admit to suffering from cancer in Bollywood. But when actor Lisa Ray found out that she had multiple myeloma (a rare form of cancer), which she wrote about on her blog. Not only that, she enthused millions of patients to shake the taboo around cancer and spread awareness. She still continues her fight against cancer.

Amir Khan - Surrogate motherhood was perhaps the only thing that a star couldn’t afford to speak about. But actor Aamir Khan wrote a letter and proudly announced that he had become a father to a baby boy through IVF surrogacy. It was definitely not an easy thing to do, but trust Aamir to be different… Kudos Khan!
