No road, water facilities at Hanuman’s birthplace!
Hanuman Jayanti, the birthday of Lord Hanuman was celebrated on Friday with religious fervor and gaiety at Anjaneri mountain — Lord Hanuman’s birthplace. The temple of Goddess Anjani, the mother of Hanuman is known to be the only one of its kind in the country and is based atop this mountain Anjaneri, 20 km from Nashik, near Trimbakeshwar in the Sahyadri mountain ranges. The ancient temple in stone is situated 4,200 ft above sea level.
The birth of Lord Hanuman, son of Pawan (wind) and Anjani was celebrated with a mahapooja and aarti. Around two lakh devotees climbed the mountain, the last stretch being particularly rough.
“Devotees in very large numbers come for the darshan at Anjaneri. They climb the mountain, despite the fact that there are no proper road or water facilities. The demand for a proper road is long pending but the government has not paid any heed,” states Advocate Balasaheb Rahane, secretary of Hanuman Janmsthan Vikas Samiti, Anjaneri.
Rahane further states that a 14 km road from Mulegaon to Anjaneri was sanctioned in 1994. Four km of the stretch lies in private land and the rest in the forest. Two km of road was built at a cost of Rs 60 lakh and the remaining is stuck between the tangles of the PWD, forest and revenue departments. “With the increasing number of devotees by the day, having the road has become an absolute necessity”, Rahane emphasises.
On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti as per tradition a yatra (fair) was held at the foothills at Anjaneri village. Villagers took out a procession of Lord Hanuman early in the morning. Fanfare ruled the region the whole day with visitors making the most of stalls selling food, games and consumer articles. The fair was marked by the game of kusti (wrestling), as well.
