Zig-zag biking at high speed costs civil engineer his life

Speed thrills, but it kills. A 24-year-old civil engineer died on the spot after he lost control over his bike while speeding on the Western Express highway on Monday night.
Police said Samir Pawar, who resides along with his relatives at old Air India Colony in Santa Cruz (East), was going to fill petrol in his bike while the accident took place. Pawar used to work as a civil engineer with a private developer in Jogeshwari and was the only son of his parents, said the police, adding that he had a love marriage around seven months ago and his wife is four months pregnant. The bike involved in the accident (MH 02-CM-1799) belongs to Pawar’s friend Prashant who bought it three months ago.
The police said Pawar returned from his work around 1am on Tuesday and told his parents that he was going to fill petrol in his bike at the domestic airport. “Around 1.30am, Pawar was riding the bike in a very high speed. When he reached Prabhat Colony on the Western Express Highway he lost control over his bike and hit a tree on the footpath,” said an officer of the akola police station.
“The impact of the accident was such that bike’s handle broke and it entered Pawar’s stomach. He was also thrown around 10 feet away. The passersby stopped their vehicles and rushed him to the VN Desai hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead,” said the officer.
“Eyewitnesses said Pawar was ridding the bike in very high speed and he was also moving in zig zag motion. The bike’s front portion has totally damaged. After looking the condition of the bike, it seems that Pawar was riding the bike at a speed more than 100 kms per hour,” said senior police inspector RG Pardeshi.
“Every Monday after 12 in the night, there are few bikers drive in high speed from Bandra to Andheri. So we are trying to find out that whether the victim was trying to do something like that or not,” said an officer, requesting anonymity.
“An accident case has been registered and we are awaiting the post-mortem report. Pawar’s body was handed over to his family members,” said the police.
