minister RR Patil has come out in defence of NCP’s minister of state for
education Fauzia Khan who has been accused of providing accommodation
to Lashkar-eTaiba (LeT) terrorist Abu Jundal. Jundal was arrested by the
Delhi police in connection with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks on June
21.
“The issue regarding Jundal staying at Khan’s accommodation in the MLA hostel was raised in 2006. It was investigated. The records of the government accommodation, too, were checked. However, no such connection has been established,” said Patil.
The opposition parties had blown up the issue in 2006, raising questions on the security in the hostel, which is adjacent to the Mantralaya building.
Khan denied having any knowledge about Jundal and said that she was ready for any interrogation. She also said that she had never even heard his name.
“The issue regarding Jundal staying at Khan’s accommodation in the MLA hostel was raised in 2006. It was investigated. The records of the government accommodation, too, were checked. However, no such connection has been established,” said Patil.

“In 2006, there was a huge discussion on the issue, there was a
probe and then I was given a clean chit. It was announced by the home
minister in the legislative session. However, if I am required to go
through any interrogation on this issue again, I am ready for it,” Khan
said on Tuesday.
She added that many people from her constituency stay at the hostel accommodation and that she cannot track everybody’s credentials.
Referring to the next course of action on Jundal, Patil said that a crime branch team carrying a court warrant has reached Delhi and will be taking custody of Jundal.
“When the IB and Interpol will finish their probe, we will bring
him to Maharashtra,” said Patil. He added that the Mumbai police have
found that Jundal’s voice matches with that of the Pakistani handlers
who were giving instructions to the attackers during the 26/11 terror
attacks, making their case even stronger.
