Bharat Ratna. The clamour reached a peak after he scored the 100th
international hundred in March. The government, instead, gave him a
Rajya Sabha ticket. Fine, he said, accepting it with humility and vowing
to fulfil his duty with his trademark earnestness. Sachin Tendulkar is
not just a cricketer now. He has allowed himself to be judged not only
for the runs he scores, but also for his public service. Indian sports,
cricket in particular, now have a voice in Parliament.
Probably India’s greatest batsman. Over a period of time he has taken the game to another level and keeps proving his critics wrong. He inspires people to keep striving and to never give up. He is a true national hero. |
