26/11 handler’s aide picked up from Beed

26/11 handler’s aide picked up from Beed

Mumbai crime branch sleuths on Wednesday picked up an alleged accomplice of Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal in connection with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) will be questioning him in connection with the recent Pune serial blasts.
According to sources, the crime branch officials, after receiving a tip-off, arrived in Beed on Wednesday night and found Jundal’s accomplice at Barshi Naka. Sources said that the two had stayed together at Hattikhana in Beed district. Jundal is a resident of Georai in Beed.
Police officials said that there is a possibility of the trail of the Pune blasts leading to Beed, just like the German Bakery bombing. The Maharashtra ATS officials are already examining the possibility, as the German Bakery blast had been found to have links in the district, which is only 250km away from Pune.
“The ATS is likely to question Jundal’s aide to check if there is any connection between the Pune blasts and Beed. Right now, nothing has been confirmed, but there is a high possibility they will get a lead in the Pune blasts case,” said a senior police officer of the Pune crime branch.
Meanwhile, the National Investigations Agency (NIA) has received a tip-off about an attempt made by someone to procure ammonium nitrate one and a half months ago.
Beed connections have been established in previous acts of terror. It is a known fact that 26/11 terror attack suspect Abu Jundal hails from the district. Another Beed resident, Faiyyaz Kagzi, who allegedly introduced Baig and Jundal to each other, is absconding.
