One of the operators TabCabs is all set to launch 700 new taxis.

Soon, 700 more fleet cabs to hit city roads

Mumbai: This could be good news for commuters. There will be a 13% increase in number of fleet cabs on Mumbai roads very soon.
One of the operators TabCabs is all set to launch 700 new taxis. With these new licenses TabCab’s fleet will have 6,000 vehicles. Meru Cabs, the second biggest operator in the city, is also considering a fleet expansion, but is awaiting the release of new permits from the government, sources said. The current strength of Meru Cabs is 2,050 cabs in Mumbai.
State transport commissioner V N More said that TabCabs has now got registered a total 2,800 cabs while another 1,200 will be launched early next year.
This is still short of the demand of 10,000 fleet taxis in the city. It is learnt that the state government is keen on releasing 4,000 additional permits soon. In that case, citizens can expect more than 10,000 private cabs on roads in a couple of years.
