Tony Almeida, 25, a resident of Vasai, was standing outside Oberoi mall
at around 5.30pm on Saturday. He was looking for an auto that would drop
him to the Goregaon station.
After several autorickshaw drivers did not respond to his calls,
he called out to a taxi (MH 01 AM 8222). When Almeida told the
42-year-old taxi driver, Omprakash Dudhnath Tiwari, that he wanted to go
to the Goregaon station, Tiwari refused. Just as he was about to drive
away, a traffic constable from the Goregaon traffic outpost spotted the
duo.
“The constable asked me if the driver had refused to take me to the station. When I told him what had happened, the cop called an autorickshaw for me and impounded the cab driver’s licence,” said Almeida, an employee with a private firm. Tiwari, a resident of Lower Parel, was the given a receipt and asked to appear before the court on a specific date.
