Two Marathi bestsellers books in English

Two Marathi bestsellers books in English

They are two different books, on two people who have devoted their lives to completely different causes and yet both Pathways to Light by Dr Prakash Amte and Learning to Live by Anil Awchat resonate.

"Both works are translations of bestseller Marathi books. It is exciting to be able to reach out to an English readership and reveal the minds of two personalities who have done so much," said Sumedha Raikar who has translated Dr Amte's autobiography into English.

Dr Amte, who is the son of legendary social worker-activist Baba Amte, said, "Baba wished to bring the tribal people into the mainstream and stop their exploitation. We worked hard to achieve this dream. This is the story of how Baba's dream was realised in Hemalkasa. It's also the story of my life.”

Muktangan Chi Goshta (The story of Muktangan) by founder of the institute, Anil Awachat, has been translated by Chandrakant Mhatre. This book talks about the efforts taken by the institute to cure those with addiction and to enable them to lead a normal life. Muktangan which has completed 25 years, factored in the Indian social milieu while arriving at rehabilitation methods."Our formula presupposed the co-operation of the families of the patients. Since it places the human being at the centre of the treatment, dependence on medical aid is relatively less," says Anil Awchat.

Personal anecdotes and a free conversational style keep both these works accessible without becoming flippant.
