Pak Hindus want the Hindu Marriage Act
Pakistan’s minority Hindu community has threatened to stage a sit-in in front of the parliament building in Islamabad if the Pakistan government failed to protect their basic rights by not passing the Hindu Marriage Registration Law in two months.
Addressing a press conference the other day, the president of the Scheduled Caste Rights Movement Pakistan (SRMP) Guru Sukh Dev and Ramaish Jae Pal called upon the Pakistan government to legislate a marriage registration law for them as without it they remained deprived of many rights.
They announced their decision to launch a nationwide signature campaign. Flanked by representatives of Action Aid and Hindu minority women hailing from different parts of the country, the SRMP leaders regretted the government’s failure to end injustice against poor women of Hindu community. They alleged that due to the absence of a marriage registration law, they were being discriminated against in getting the national ID card.
