Golden temple jams mobiles

Golden temple jams mobiles

It should be complete devotion when one is on the premises of the Golden Temple and devotional chantings are in the air.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has installed two jammers at the religious place to prevent, what the SGPC officials call , ‘mobile nuisance’ on the compound.
“Mobile phones start ringing when the devotees are paying obeisance at the sanctum sanatorium. It ‘violently’ disrupts the devotional atmosphere,” said SGPC secretary Dalmegh Singh.
“Initially we had put up a notice at the main entrance gates that mobiles be turned off when a devotee enters. But since there was no desired result the SGPC decided to install jammers,” he added. He said in the first phase two jammers had been installed, one each on the ground and first floor, to block mobile signals within the periphery of 15 metres area.
Raagis reciting gurbani and devotees performing path have been constantly registering their complaint about disturbance caused by the ringing mobile phones inside the shrine.
The SGPC secretary said the move would ensure that neither the ‘raagis’ nor the devotees were disturbed during their religious activities. The next phase involves installing jammers along the causeway connecting the Golden Temple Complex with the holy shrine.
Another plan to install jammers up to the Darshani Deodhi has, however, been revised as it would cause disruption in the live telecast of gurbani.
