Spaniard’s rapist confesses

Mohammed Ismail Ansari alias Mohammed Badshah, 28, who had been arrested by the Bandra police for allegedly raping and robbing a Spanish national on Monday morning, has confessed to the crime, said Vishwas Nangre-Patil, additional commissioner of police (west region).
Ansari has been booked under section 376 (rape) and 377 (unnatural sex) of the Indian Penal Code. “Not only has Ansari confessed to both crimes, but we have also recovered the stolen items from his Reay Road home,” said Nangre-Patil.
However, they have not found the clothes that the victim was wearing when Ansari raped her twice, at knifepoint, in her rented flat on Perry Cross Road. The victim pointed him out as the accused during the identification parade on Thursday.
Ansari, who was initially remanded in judicial custody, was sent to police custody on Friday.
Ansari, who had burgled Dino Morea’s house last week, had entered the victim’s house on Monday morning. He raped her at knifepoint and then robbed her of 70 euros, 50 pounds and 17 cents. He also took a camera, a watch and diamond earrings. Before entering the victim’s house, Ansari had stolen a mobile phone from a neighbour’s house, which also has been recovered.
“We need to corroborate the medical, forensic and circumstantial evidence to build a strong case against Ansari. We'll make sure that we lead the case to the point of conviction,” Nangre-Patil said.
