Enrolment for the Maharashtra chapter of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to be announced on December 2 at Roha in Raigad district. After that, AAP will announce its state and city executives.
Party officials said while it may take two months, in all likelihood it will be done before January 26, 2013. “But that is not because we want to announce it on that day,” said Preeti Menon, party’s spokesperson.
“At Roha, Kejriwal will be coming to meet some of our members who have raised local issues there. Many from city too will be going there. We are likely to announce the enrolment drive for the Maharasthra chapter from there on that day,” said Mayank Gandhi, member of the national executive of AAP from Mumbai city.
As of now, the party has around 10,000 members who had enrolled earlier, officials said. They are those who had joined during the India Against Corruption movement. “Our party forms for the state and city level will be out soon. We are looking to establish ourselves in 35 districts and have 36 units that will include the state unit,” said Gandhi.
The membership form is likely to cost Rs10. Whether the amount will be a yearly or lifetime membership is not known yet. “It will be clear soon,” Menon said.
The party said that as per its constitution there won’t be office bearers but posts of “responsibilities”. “Like at the central level where there is only a convenor, secretary and treasurer, it will be the same here,” said Menon, adding, “The executive committee members will not be more than 25 for the state and city.”
The party, at present, has narrowed down on four symbols that it is likely to approach the Election Commission with for selecting the party symbol. “These are tentative; they are mashal, candle, whistle and drum,” said Gandhi.
