Some last minute shopping

Some last minute shopping

With just a little more than a week left for Diwali, it’s shopping that rules our hearts and minds. Naturally, our shopping bags bear the brunt. They increase in weight and volume as the excitement adds up to all that we have shopped .
Malini Patel asserts that in Diwali, she ends up spending more in the supermarket.
“During Diwali, the grocery list gets longer. I buy extra gram flour, jaggery, ghee and dry fruits for my Diwali faral.” Patel claims that she also invests in extra oil needed for the lighting up the diyas and also for frying the Diwali sweets.
Agrees Sneha Rewari, who brings in at least two extra litres of oil and a kilogram of extra ghee during Diwali.

“We light up ghee diyas in our house during the Lakshmi Puja. We also buy lots of sweets, chocolates and dry fruits since lot of guests pour in during the festival,” said Rewari.
Kaumudi Renake says that Diwali is special to her home and her organisation.
“This year we got sweets and snacks as well as earthen lamps and candles from the grocery store. It is fun to fill up our shopping bags since we stick to a budget every month. This month the festival liberates us and we shop to our heart’s content,” Renake said.
Pratima Adsul agrees. She says, “Shopping is fun. I bought kitchen appliances like a blender and a chopper since there were offers on them.”
