‘saree daan’ initiative

A saree for all women
A non-government organisation distributed clothes on October 28 in Patore, a tribal village situated in the interiors of Kasara, as part of its ‘saree daan’ initiative.
Umang Foundation, the NGO, took the effort of collecting old clothes from individuals and corporates from Thane, Mulund and other parts of the city last month.
The foundation observed that women in villages wore tattered strips of cloth and blouses, so the initiative was called ‘saree-daan’, which is slated to be executed in several other tribal villages. Around 30 boxes of clothes and toys for children were taken to the villages.
“The smile on their faces makes our efforts worthwhile,” said Ashish Goyal, founder of Umang Foundation. It was indeed a memorable day for the members of the foundation. “The team did an excellent job. They ensured that every woman of the village received at least one saree,” said Vinayak Surve, a member of the foundation. “These efforts bring joy among the under-privileged in our society,” said Mayank Jain, another member.
In the previous week, another distribution drive took place in a tribal area called Chate ki wadi near Shahpur.
The next clothes distribution drives will be organised on November 11, 18 and 25 in various tribal villages. Volunteers can visit mail@umangfoundation.org to be a part of this drive.
